A cruise is one of the most relaxing ways to travel — once you're aboard. A little prep before you leave makes embarkation day effortless. Here's the checklist a cruise specialist runs through with every client.
Bring the right documents
Carry your government-issued ID — a valid driver's license or passport — with you at all times, and check your cruise line's specific ID requirements for your itinerary.
Pack your cruise booklet or travel summary and a printed boarding pass for each person in your party.
Tag your luggage well
Print two luggage tags per person and reinforce them with clear contact paper or packing tape so they don't tear in transit.
Tag every bag, including carry-ons, so anything misplaced can find its way back to you quickly.
Notify your bank and phone carrier
Tell your credit card company your travel dates so charges abroad aren't flagged, and carry a major card to settle your onboard account and spend in port.
Ask your cell carrier about an international or cruise package to avoid roaming charges — or switch to airplane mode and use the ship's wifi. Onboard internet packages are usually cheapest when purchased on the first day.
Pack medications — and don't forget motion sickness
Bring all prescription and non-prescription medications you'll need, plus a little extra in case of delays.
If you're prone to seasickness, pack remedies or wristbands so a rocky first night doesn't set the tone.
Insider tip: visit the Future Cruise desk
While you're aboard, stop by the Future Cruise department to see the offers for your next sailing — they're only available while you're cruising, and your advisor is notified of the booking automatically.
