Travel-Day Tips: Breeze Through the Airport

Most travel-day stress comes from small things you can handle in advance. Run through these before you head to the airport and the day takes care of itself.

Have your ID ready

For U.S. flights you'll need a REAL ID-compliant license or a passport. Have your documents out and ready as you approach TSA to keep the line moving.

Arrive with time to spare

Give yourself at least two hours before a domestic flight to absorb any delays or long security lines — more during busy travel periods.

Tag every bag

Put luggage tags on all baggage, including carry-ons, so anything lost or delayed can be returned to you.

At the carousel, double-check you've grabbed your bag and not a look-alike.

Smart moves for rental cars

Bring a major credit card and a valid driver's license for everyone who'll drive.

Before you pull off the lot, photograph the license plate and all sides of the vehicle — it's your proof of condition if there's ever a dispute.

Cards, cash, and medications

Avoid carrying a lot of cash; use major credit cards, but confirm they're accepted at your destination (not everywhere takes Discover or AMEX), and notify your bank of your travel dates.

Have your hotel confirmation number handy from your itinerary or client portal, and pack enough medication for the whole trip plus a little extra.
